On June 25th, 2024, the Data Protection Authorities of Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde, Portugal, and São Tomé and Príncipe met at the headquarters of the National Data Protection Commission of Portugal (CNPD) in Lisbon to formalize the creation of the Lusophone Data Protection Network (RLPD). During this meeting, the Lisbon Declaration was signed, officially marking the foundation of this new cooperation network.

The signing of this Declaration and the establishment of the RLPD are aligned with Plano Plurianual de Atividades da CNPD para o período 2024-2026, with the aim of strengthening collaboration between the Data Protection Authorities of Lusophone countries. The initiative aims to expand their capacity to act in defense of the interests of citizens, promoting Human Rights, Fundamental Freedoms and the Guarantees of a democratic Rule of Law.
To advance the formal structuring of the Network, the drafting of its Statutes is planned, with the first draft expected to be presented by October 2024.
The first official meeting of the RLPD is scheduled for March 2025 in Cabo Verde.
